Cancellotti, Gino. Seven vintage photographs reproducing architectural plans for the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana competition, ca. 1937-1938.
Each photo: 11.8 x 17.5 cm; commercially printed by Dafne Foto-studio, Rome, studio stamp verso; sl. curling as expected, a few with small indents, otherwise very good with rich tones. Gino Cancellotti (1896-1987) was a rationalist architect and member of the fascist and neoclassicist groups Movimento italiano per l’architettura razionale (MIAR) and Gruppo urbanisti romani (GUR). These photographs reproduce elevations and interiors from his proposal for the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, the centerpiece of Mussolini’s planned 1942 World’s Fair, known as the Esposizione Universale Roma (EUR). Planning for the EUR district began in 1936, though the fair was cancelled in 1941, leaving most of the buildings unfinished.
