La Ferrovia per lo Statto della Cittá del Vaticano. 1934
87 pp. celebrating the construction and completion of the Vatican’s railway (the world’s shortest national railway), a project financed by the Italian government. Profusely illus. with 28 photo lithograph plates showing views of the Vatican, the rails, the new viaducts, gateway, and the single station’s exterior and interior including architectural details and artistic elements by various sculptors. Arranged in 6 sections, each section’s headpiece and the remarkable cover designed by iconic Futurist graphic artist Attilio Calzavara. Calzavara was an artist, architect, and designer who refused to join the Fascist party while simultaneously creating some of government’s most memorable and avant-garde propaganda graphics. Three large folded plans. Color illus. wrpps. 4to.
Exceptional example of futurist-fascist typography, very rare, OCLC locates 1 copy in the US.
