[Cayuga, IN]: n.p., [1905]. 8vo, 48 pp.; 48 pp.; text memorializing a young schoolteacher, Minna Madaline Marie Ashley (19), who was killed by a firework, and another girl (2), Madaline’s namesake, who was maimed in the same festival by another firework, with five b/w pls. depicting victim and her funeral, very good; paper wraps, chipped at front fore-corner, sl. stained.
Heartfelt testimonials and Christian biography frame a macabre account of the young woman’s death, “the sharp point of the deadly missile struck her squarely in the left eye and buried itself in her brain. It was so tightly wedged in that it took the strength of two men to pull it out of her head.” The booklet includes a letter she wrote to be read in the event of her death.
