Perfect Feet on Treasure Island
Perfect Feet on Treasure Island
A sculptor judges a chiropodiatry contest.
[Sculpture – Chiropodiatry]. Perfect Feet on Treasure Island. San Francisco, 1939. Press photo, 8 x 10 in., with typewritten caption and date stamp verso; minor wear and rippling, else good. “Sculptor Beniamino Bufano and Dr. Charles E. Krausz, president of the National Association of Chiropodists try hard to decide who has the Treasure Island Perfect Foot. Virigina Sinclair of San Francisco finally won the contest which was held in conjunction with Chiropodist Day at the Exposition (Thursday July 27).” Bufano was a well-known sculptor and eccentric: a bigamist who sent his (accidentally) severed right index finger to President Woodrow Wilson to protest WWI, he also ended up embroiled in a Cold War art dispute that involved a phone call with Soviet Premier Nikolai Bulganin and a rebuke from Pres. Eisenhower's administration. $35
