Puedes sembrar con mal suelo ... no puedes sembrar sin semilla

(USMexico) (Propaganda)

Mora, Francisco and Taller de Gráfica Popular. Puedes sembrar con mal suelo ... no puedes sembrar sin semilla. Comisión del Maíz. Mexico, D.F.: TGP, 1950. Linocut, 47 x 34 cm. A few small edge chips to blank margins, VG+. “Puedes sembrar con mal suelo. Puedes sembrar con mal cielo. Puedes sembrar con agua. Puedes sembrar sin agua. No puedes sembrar sin semilla.” Agricultural propaganda produced by the Taller de Gráfica Popular for Mexico's Corn Commission, established in 1947 as a postwar partnership with the US Government and the Rockefeller Foundation to develop and distribute high-yield corn seeds in Mexico [Mexico Agriculture Program (MAP)]. Evidence of a rare collaboration between the TGP, associated with socialism and revolutionary worker's parties, and an organization with direct ties to the US government during the early days of the Cold War and US antisocialist policy. Despite initial mistrust of the new varietals, public campaigns like this one successfully raised Mexico's corn yields dramatically. The first seed issued to farmers from the project was marketed under the name “Rocamex”. OCLC records only two member holdings: UCSD and the Houston MFA. SOLD
