Nearly complete run (lacking nos. 1 and 3) of an Argentinian sf zine, the first editorial project of Argentinian sf author and anthologist Sergio Gaut vel Hartman. Gaut vel Hartman was a contributor to prominent sf serials, including El Pendulo, that were published independently and sometimes clandestinely during the Dirty War; Sinergia’s first issues appeared before the elections that restored democratic governance in late 1983. Beginning in 1984, Gaut vel Hartman simultaneously edited the magazine Parsec. 

The stories were almost exclusively by Latin American authors, still unusual for area scifi serials in the early 1980s. There are a surprising number of women contributors, including the feminist Angélica Gorodischer, an early pioneer in the genre, and the computer scientist Magdalena Mouján (whose sf work was censored by the Franco regime in Spain). Other regular or notable contributions include those by Raul Alzogaray, Verónica Figueiredo, Marta Esviza Garay, Elvira Ibargüen, Graciela Parini, Theodore Sturgeon, and Margaret St. Clair (a rare Anglo inclusion in translation). Few of the stories appear to be translated or anthologized elsewhere. 

*Very few examples of Latin American science fiction have been translated to English. Angélica Gorodischer’s work is one of the exceptions. Ursula K Le Guin translated Kalpa Imperial in 2003. The Mexican science fiction prize “Kalpa” was named for Gorodischer’s novel.
