Single fold program, 9 x 6 in., [4] pp.; illus., paper slightly toned and worn, with crease from single vertical fold and spotting to one corner; good. “Boys will be girls! … Introducing the world's most famous female impersonators.” The Wonder Club was one of New Orleans’original drag clubs. Opened in 1933 by proprietor Emile Morlet in the French Quarter, a new city ordinance banning public transvestitism (except on Mardi Gras) forced it to relocate to Jefferson Parish in 1936. Wonder Club operated there, on the East End pier of Lake Pontchartrain, until the late 1940s when it was renamed Club My-O-My. Barred from traditional advertising, the club relied on its handbills, flyers and matchbooks to help spread the word. This program features images of the emcee Francis Russel and other performers including Bertie LePage (“Holland's most beautiful prima donna”), Poppy Lane (“sly singer of saucy songs”), and Frances LaVerne (“Dance Delineater”).
